Frequently Asked Questions
A crewed yacht charter is a private yacht experience where a professional crew takes care of the details while you relax and enjoy your time on the water. Depending on the yacht, your crew may include a captain, chef and additional crew members who handle navigation, meals, water toys, daily service and other aspects of your journey. Your itinerary can be customized around your interests, from snorkeling and exploring secluded beaches to enjoying leisurely meals and discovering different islands. With a crewed charter, you get the freedom and privacy of your own yacht while having an experienced team dedicated to making your vacation comfortable, seamless and unforgettable.
A yacht broker acts as your advocate and expert guide throughout the charter planning process, helping you find the right yacht, crew and itinerary for your vacation. Rather than sorting through countless yachts on your own, your broker learns about your group, preferences, budget and expectations, then uses their industry knowledge and network to match you with suitable options. Your broker also helps coordinate contracts, payments, special requests and other details while serving as your point of contact before and during the planning process. The goal is simple: to take the guesswork out of chartering and help you find the right yacht and experience for your trip.
You would contact a Yacht Broker, Jackie Colvin, for the Virgin Islands Yacht Collection and she will provide you with all of the booking details.

A yacht charter itinerary is designed around you, and you can absolutely be involved in planning where you want to go, what you want to see and how you want to spend your time. You can discuss your interests, favorite destinations, activities, dining preferences and desired pace with your yacht broker and captain before your charter. Your captain will then help shape the itinerary based on weather, sea conditions, local knowledge and the yacht’s capabilities. The beauty of a private charter is that your plans don’t have to be rigid. You can linger longer at a favorite beach, explore a new destination or adjust the day’s plans along the way. Your ideas help shape the journey, while your captain helps make sure it is safe, enjoyable and realistic.
Gratuity for the captain and crew is customary but not mandatory. In the yachting industry, a tip is generally given at the end of the charter when guests feel the crew has provided exceptional service. For many crewed charters, a gratuity of approximately 15% to 20% of the charter fee is considered a general guideline, although the appropriate amount is ultimately up to you. Your yacht broker can explain the customary practice for your specific charter and whether gratuity is included or handled separately. Most importantly, a gratuity should reflect your experience and appreciation for the crew who helped make your vacation special.
